Simon Baron-Cohen (1990’s) : Autism theory based in the existence of Theory of Mind

  • “mindblindness” the absence of awareness of other minds
  • To explain an autistic trait where it is difficult to distinguish that other people have mental lives separate and completely different from their own.
  • Although this is disputed within the autistic community : as it doesn’t account for daily variability in sensing and fails to recognise the impacts of sensory overload, which can be demonstrated as either an extreme overreaction or an apparent obliviousness/nonresponse to stimuli.
